Cultural Competence

Cultural Competence begins with cultural self-awareness and expands to knowledge of, respect for, and skills to engage with those of other cultures. Culturally competent individuals respect multiple perspectives and are able to successfully negotiate cross-cultural differences. Cultural competence has four components: Awareness, attitude, knowledge and skills. The outcomes of cultural competence are observable and measurable practices that support and promote inclusion.

The second component that Missouri State is using to make Missouri's future is cultural competence.  Missouri State builds up its students' cultural knowledge through several outlooks.

Study abroad, international students, and even the ability to study different language, history, and religion courses throughout their academic career broadens their horizon to help build relationships, and bring about better competition for the future.
