Internationally acclaimed writer, Nawal El Saadawi presented her keynote addresses, The Condition of Arab Women Today and Giving Voice to Arab Women. El Saadawi spoke on her experiences as an Arab physician and an advocate for women’s rights in the Middle East.
Composer of modern Mexican folk music known as, “nueva cancion,” Paco Padilla and his band members performed a unique form of Spanish-language music. They have performed around the world.

At the high school luncheon, Robert Worth spoke to many Missouri students about his assignment in Baghdad. Worth is a foreign correspondent for the New York Times and spent just under three years on his assignment in Baghdad.

Les Garland (pictured left), co-founder of MTV, brought his high-energy pop culture to campus. Many gathered in the PSU Theatre (pictured above) to hear Garland’s perspective on global media. Garland created the first well-known MTV music videos, “Making of” and “MTV World Premiere.”
