Peter Bertrand

Peter Bertrand

A captain in the U.S. Navy Dental Corps, Peter M. Bertrand has served 30 years of active duty, enjoying assignments in Iceland, the Philippines and various locations spanning North America. Dr. Bertrand has been continuously stationed at the National Naval Medical Center in Bethesda, Md., since 1993.

A diplomate of the American Board of Periodontology and the American Board of Orofacial Pain, he is the senior professor at the Naval Postgraduate Dental School at the Bethesda Navy complex. In 2000, Bertrand founded the Orofacial Pain Center for the Department of Defense. Located in Bethesda, the Center receives chronic facial patients from military locations throughout the world, conducts numerous educational programs and researches the physiological bases of head and neck pain.

In addition to his clinical practice and academic responsibilities, Bertrand serves as an FDA panelist and consultant, participates on numerous national working groups and lectures widely on pain subjects.

During his last year of active duty, Bertrand has been honored by a request from the Navy to encapsulate into a book the founding principles of the Orofacial Pain Center.

Bertrand received his BS from Union College in Schenectady, N.Y., in 1973 and his DDS from Georgetown University in 1977.
