Many believe community engagement, in all its forms, is central to the role of the modern university. Citizens, social institutions, the business community, legislators and government leaders expect engagement and, at times, demand it. Engagement provides a great opportunity for universities to serve the common good. Given the depth and breadth of expertise and resources available at universities, the potential impact on improving communities is significant. Many voices exist at the university. Harnessing and directing these voices toward the common good is a challenge and opportunity that this panel will explore.
