A measure of our humanity is the extent to which we care for the most vulnerable and disenfranchised members of our society — children, elders and the marginalized “have-nots.” In the 21st century, we will be witnesses to 50 million suffering from Alzheimer’s, incalculable numbers of children starving, countless impoverished villagers unable to survive in underdeveloped regions, and usurpation of resources by powerful elitist nations. Who, indeed, will care for those who require humanitarian intervention in an increasingly competitive global environment where survival of the fittest appears to be the mantra? Panelists will address these questions about who will step up to be our less privileged sisters’ and brothers’ champions.
