Robert P. Jones

Dr. Robert Jones is a scholar and consultant on religion and progressive politics. He is an affiliated scholar at the Center for American Progress, a columnist for www.religiondispatches.org, and advises a number of national advocacy organizations.

Dr. Jones is the author of numerous publications, including Liberalism’s Troubled Search for Equality: Religion and Cultural Bias in the Oregon Physician-Assisted Suicide Debates

From 2005-06, he served as the founding director and senior fellow of the Center for American Values in Public Life at People For the American Way Foundation. He currently serves on the national steering committee for the Religion, Politics and the State Group of the American Academy of Religion and on the national board of www.FaithfulDemocrats.com


Jones is currently completing a  book based on interviews with progressive religious leaders in Judaism, Christianity, Islam and Buddhism entitled Progressive & Religious: How Christian, Jewish, Muslim, and Buddhist Leaders are Moving Beyond the Culture Wars and Transforming American Public Life.


He holds a Ph.D. in Religion from Emory University and an M.Div. from Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary.
