Lindy Bumgarner is the special programs director for the Office of the Commonwealth’s Attorney in Richmond, Virginia. She administers alternative educational programs for the purposes of diverting high-at-risk youth (age 14-24) from the criminal justice system.
Current programs include the Journeywoman’s Project — a series of monologues written and performed by former prostitutes and the Urban Interactive Theatre League — a community-based intervention program for students affiliated with gangs.
She received an MFA in Theatre Pedagogy from Virginia Commonwealth University and will complete her Ph.D. in Theatre History from Tufts University in 2008. Bumgarner, whose teaching credits include courses in political theatre, service learning, acting and theatre history, is teaching her first interdisciplinary course in theatre for social change.
Bumgarner is a member of the Association for Theatre in Higher Education.
