2009 PUBLIC AFFAIRS CONFERENCE

Sustainability and Social Justice

Economics, environment and equity are often regarded as three tenets of a model for sustainability. Of the three, social equity is frequently the least addressed. As corporations, universities, cities and other institutions move toward sustainability, what consideration is given to income equality, social justice and living wages – in other words, sustaining the people? The well-being of workers, families and communities must be considered equally along with the economy and the natural environment. This panel includes representatives from labor, worker rights and social justice organizations.
