Feeding the World: Reductive Science vs. Community Wisdom

A billion people are hungry – and the human population continues to grow exponentially. Addressing and solving agro-food problems arguably take both scientific and community input. Conflict over food and genetic engineering seems increasingly unavoidable. Worldwide, two-thirds of all ground water is used for irrigation; therefore, conflict over water is only going to increase. Solar power is the source of energy most people think is needed to grow food, but oil is producing a large portion of our food. What models and approaches will best feed the world with the highest social equity and lowest environmental impact?
