2009 PUBLIC AFFAIRS CONFERENCE
From gross domestic product to net ecosystem value – how we measure growth is not simple, nor is it trivial. How we measure costs also is not simple, nor trivial. For example, what is the true cost of a gallon of gas, a gallon of tap water, a gallon of bottled water or a pound of grapes grown 8,000 miles away. Is a “green” economy one where growth is measured by gross domestic product and the cost of an item is the price we pay at the store or pump? This panel will address the economics of sustainable “growth.”
