Religious revivalism – Islamic, Hindu, Christian – is shaking three of the mightiest pillars that have sustained human progress since the European enlightenment: humanism, science and nationalism. Today, diversity is less easily recognized and accepted within political and national bodies almost everywhere. How does one make sense of a world turning away from pluralism? Of a Muslim world whose attitude towards terrorism is often characterized by ambivalence?
