Small businesses: How much liberty? How much regulation?
Small businesses are important entities in the American economy and in the American way of life. Government has a responsibility to protect liberty while judiciously exercising its regulatory power to promote the common good. Liberty unchecked can lead to a variety of social harms, but overregulation can, too. What, then, is the proper balance? What values should matter most in striking the best balance between liberty and control in the marketplace?
