Mary Lilly Smith retired earlier this year after almost 39 years with the City of Springfield. She served as planning and development director for the past six years and economic development director for the 16 years prior. In those roles, she was responsible for the city’s planning, land use, economic development and community development activities.

Smith has had a hand in over 100 key economic development projects and business attraction, retention and expansion initiatives, as well as two long-range plans, Vision 2020 and Forward SGF. Her efforts have been instrumental in the redevelopment of center city, and development of Jordan Valley Park and IDEA Commons. She's passionate about public service, is results-oriented and politically savvy, and has a reputation for collaboration, innovation and leadership.
