Patrick J. Ashton is an author, speaker, professor and community mediator living in Fort Wayne, Ind. He is an associate professor of sociology and is the director of Peace and Conflict Studies at Indiana University-Purdue University Fort Wayne.
For the past 30 years, Dr. Ashton’s research and writing has focused on the interface of human community and the built environment. His publications include analyses of the political economy, of suburban development, the impact of a large-scale plant closing on an urban community, the characteristics and dynamics of community organization, and the prospects for sustainable urban development.
He authored “Transforming Conflict by Building Relationships: A Manual for Conflict Resolution and Mediation” and co-authored “The Green Age: Transforming Your Life Choices for the 21st Century.”Dr. Ashton and his colleague Matt Kubik have conducted sustainable design workshops in the United States and Europe.
Dr. Ashton has won 15 local, regional and national teaching awards.
