According to the National Alliance on Mental Illness, 6.9% of adults in the US (16 million people) had at least one major depressive episode in the past year. What public policies are necessary to address this crisis? What are best practices for promoting mental health, and how may mental disorders be better identified and destigmatized? What role should community institutions —government, not-for-profits, and private commercial sector— play in suicide prevention and in promoting mental health? How may individual community members be equipped to recognize and report concerns about mental health issues in their homes, classrooms, work places?
