Unmanned aerial system technology and the increased use of drones have ushered in a new era of opportunities for research, recreation, surveying, industry and national defense strategy. From the beginning, drones have suffered somewhat of an identity crisis, with many discounting them as merely a passing novelty. How can drone technology achieve its full potential for scientific analyses for agriculture and natural resources? Can adequate policies be enforced to accommodate recreation while preserving the integrity of high-quality research and utilitarian goals? What are the implications of the military use of drones? How do we ensure our privacy? What other uses of drones do you envision?
