Ethics and culture in American higher education

10:30 - 11:45 a.m., Friday, April 17, 2015
PSU 313

A host of people and institutions influence moral development: family, friends, religion, national culture, schools, etc. A perennial question in higher education is, what role do instructors play in teaching ethics? Further, how do they impact moral development? What do we mean by "ethics" in America? When students decide to take classes internationally, they are exposed to differing ideas about what is right and wrong, which can cause them to question their perceptions. What intentional and unintentional signals do we send to international students about ethics in America and in American education? What happens when perceptions of what is ethical conflict?
