It's all in your head: The stigma of mental illness on college campuses

Invisible diseases are the hardest to identify and understand, especially those of the mind. Atrocious crimes on college campuses have been attributed to mental illness, thus increasing the negative connotation associated with the condition. As a result, those who suffer from mental afflictions often feel they must remain silent during their struggle. How does the stigma affect the performance of students socially and academically? What can colleges do to remove the stigma of mental illness in order to create a more open campus for conversations seeking to acknowledge, address and understand the relationship between mental illness and the student population?
