Andreana Clay is an associate professor and current chair in the department of sociology and sexuality studies at San Francisco State University. Her research interests include Black popular cultures, hip-hop culture, queer theory and social movements, organizing and activism. Her book, “The Hip-Hop Generation Fights Back: Youth Activism and Post-Civil Rights Politics” (NYU Press, 2012) explores how youth of color organize and identify as activists in the post-civil rights era.
Clay has published widely on Black popular music, including hip-hop, queer sexuality and social movements. Her current research explores the concept of loss in Black communities since the civil rights movement, specifically in relationship to music, crack-cocaine, queer sexuality and social movement organizing.
