John P. Rose serves as a professor of international affairs for Missouri State University’s graduate program in defense and strategic studies in the Washington, DC, area. Prior to joining this program, Rose served eight years as the director of the George C. Marshall European Center for Security Studies (a German-American and international center for defense and security studies which interacted with more than 130 nations) in Garmisch, Germany. A Vietnam veteran, he has served as a consultant to the Defense Department’s Vietnam Commemorations Office since July 2015.
Rose served 30 years in the U.S. Army, retiring as a Brigadier General in the Air Defense Artillery Branch. He attended Harvard University’s Kennedy School of Government under a National Security Fellowship, was a senior fellow at the Council on Foreign Relations in New York and holds a doctorate in international relations from the University of Southern California.
