Higher education, trigger warnings, safe space and the pursuit of happiness

10:30 - 11:45 a.m., Wednesday, April 5, 2017
PSU Ballroom East

Student demands for curricular trigger warnings and for campus safe spaces are growing. Are these developments consistent with the educational mission of universities? Do students have a right to be warned before being exposed to certain ideas? Does the demand for trigger warnings threaten the academic freedom and free speech rights of faculty and students? Do safe spaces promote unity or division? What is the best approach to meeting the needs of students to which trigger warnings and safe spaces are a response?
