Technology and the future of the classroom

The changing face of education has accelerated tremendously in the 21st century. With the advent of new and ever-changing technologies, classrooms and the ways that teachers engage their students look different than they did just a few years ago. Accepting the premise that the pace of change will only quicken in the coming years, what facets of formal, traditional education should be sustained? What seems to be the consensus opinion of American society currently on this issue? How can we speculate as to potential consequences of moving beyond the classroom as it has been traditionally envisioned?
