As director, Office of Operations at the Los Angeles Police Department (LAPD), Assistant Chief Beatrice Girmala is responsible for overseeing four geographic bureaus that cover the entire City of Los Angeles and all uniformed patrol resources: West Bureau, Central Bureau, South Bureau and Valley Bureau. She also oversees the public engagement section, which emphasizes the department’s commitment to community outreach through a variety of community and youth programs. Girmala is also department coordinator representing LGBTQ+ matters.
She's a 35-year veteran of the LAPD and a lifelong resident of Los Angeles, who enjoys the diversity and energy that defines the city. While at the University of California, Los Angeles, she was a member of the scholastic honor society Alpha Lambda Delta and studied political science, public administration and public law. Girmala graduated magna cum laude with a bachelor's degree in political science.
