Robby Goldman conducts research jointly for the U.S. Geological Survey’s Volcano Hazards Program and the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign. A “volcanologist of many trades,” he uses both geophysics and social science methods to improve volcanic risk management practices. An advocate for science-based decision making, Goldman was part of the inaugural 2018 cohort of the American Geophysical Union’s Voices for Science program. He currently serves as the North-Central section representative on the Geological Society of America’s Geology and Public Policy Committee.
He graduated in 2015 with a bachelor's degree in geology from Pomona College in Claremont, California. The following year, he conducted a Fulbright research fellowship in Christchurch, New Zealand. This past year, he founded and became president of Fulbright Prism’s first U.S.-based chapter, which aims to support LGBTQ+ grantees and alumni on the West Coast.
