Ash B. Alpert MD MFA (they/them) is a hematologist, and an Instructor of Medicine at Yale University. Dr. Alpert works with an advisory board of transgender people who have been diagnosed with cancer to develop community solutions to improving the experiences and outcomes of transgender people with cancer. In 2020, Dr. Alpert received a Young Investigator Award from Conquer Cancer, the American Society of Clinical Oncology Foundation, to develop patient-centered and non-stigmatizing gender identity data collection methods that can be implemented in oncology settings, explore the experiences of transgender people sharing gender identity information with clinicians, and investigate the connections between violence and cancer risk for transgender people. Dr. Alpert is also involved with social justice efforts nationally with organizations such as the American Society of Clinical Oncology, the Food and Drug Administration, and the National Comprehensive Cancer Network. Dr. Alpert is also a poet, essayist, and at work on their first novel.
