Director of the Office of Indian Education (OIE)

Julian Guerrero Jr. is the current director of the Office of Indian Education (OIE) at the U.S. Department of Education where he serves to grow and strengthen OIE’s capacity, collaboration, and constituent services to their grantee communities.
The Office of Indian Education administers the Indian Education Program of ESEA, as amended, (Title VII, Part A), which establishes policies and provides financial and technical assistance for supporting LEAs, Indian tribes and organizations, post-secondary institutions and other entities in meeting the special educational and cultural related academic needs of American Indians and Alaska Natives, 20 U.S.C. 7401 et. seq.
A citizen of the Comanche Nation, Guerrero previously served as Executive Director for American Indian Education at the Oklahoma State Department of Education (OSDE). He also served as Associate Director of the Tribal Education Departments National Assembly (TEDNA), an Oklahoma City-based nonprofit that provides resources and assistance to tribal education departments across the nation.
A graduate of the University of Oklahoma, Julian has a Master’s in Public Administration and a B.A. in Public Affairs and Administration.
