Isaias Hernandez

Hi, my name is Isaias Hernandez!

I was born in Los Angeles, California, also known as Tongva Land. I grew up in Section 8 housing, was a recipient of food stamps, and lived in a community that faced environmental injustice. These firsthand experiences are where I would eventually find my passion for the environment, social justice, and equity. As I witnessed the ways pollution affected my body and community, I turned my anger and sadness into a solution: creating environmental education that would prioritize accessibility and intersectionality. I had the opportunity to earn my B.S. in Environmental Science at the University of California, Berkeley, and began to gain experience in diversity inclusion work in environmental spaces, academic research, and creative work.

Now, I seek to help everyone educate themselves on the intersectional nature of the climate crisis. In my work as a queer and brown environmentalist, I believe a diversity of worldviews, backgrounds, and experiences are essential to achieve success in the environmental movement. The climate crisis is an educational crisis and we need forms of education that can be sustained outside of our institutions to address it. I want to help create a world where people no longer struggle to learn about environmentalism. This desire led me to create my platform, QueerBrownVegan, and since then, I’ve gotten to see firsthand how independent communicators like myself can connect the corporate and nonprofit sectors, change minds, and inspire all generations.

I’m currently bicoastal living between Los Angeles and New York, working as a full-time content creator for QueerBrownVegan, a public speaker, and a consultant. In my free time, I enjoy reading, cooking, foraging, and connecting to our ecological wealth.
