Josiah Overton is from Jacksonville, IL. Josiah graduated from Routt Catholic High School, and then attended Drury University graduating in 2017 with a bachelor's in Criminology and minors in Psychology and Law in Society. After graduation Josiah was hired by the Springfield Police Department in December of 2017. Josiah started the police academy in January of 2018 and graduated in July of 2018. Josiah worked patrol on the north side of Springfield for five years.
On March 15th 2020 Josiah and Officer Christopher Walsh confronted an active shooter at the Kum and Go at 2885 East Chestnut Expressway. Officer Walsh was killed by the gunmen and Josiah was shot three times. Josiah returned to work in June of 2020. Currently Josiah is the Police Area Representative for North West Springfield a position he has held for 3 years. Josiah has been awarded the Gold Medal of Honor, the Purple Heart, and the Command Commendation, from the Springfield Police Department.
Josiah is a member of the Point Blank Saves Club and Street Cop Survivors Club. In his free time Josiah enjoys spending his time outdoors riding his motorcycle or hunting.
