Julie has been around water all her life, but started kayaking in 2008 when she received her first kayak as a Christmas present. She earned an American Canoe Association L2 River Kayaking Certification in 2021 and has taught classes throughout the Midwest for governmental and non-profit entities. 

Julie is the regional paddlecraft coordinator for the US Coast Guard Auxiliary’s Heartland District, Western Rivers Region. She is also currently serving on the ACA Safety Education and Instruction Committee 's River Kayaking Discipline subcommittee. 

Julie’s day job is as an environment compliance researcher with the US Army Engineer Research and Development Center’s Construction Engineering Research Laboratory.
