Fernando Ramirez provides strategic leadership to our advocacy, public policy, communications, and marketing efforts as Chief Policy & Public Affairs Officer. He is also responsible for community organizing, government relations, and our internationally acclaimed sports research library as a member of the LA84 Foundation’s senior leadership team.
Driven by a commitment to enhance investments in play equity and foster public support for the transformative power of sport and play in young lives, Ramirez has expanded his role to develop impactful strategies aimed at broadening LA84’s reach.
He collaborates with policymakers, stakeholders, and grassroots organizations to further our mission, emphasizing play equity as a vital social justice issue.
Ramirez has expanded our collaboration with the 12 professional sports teams in Southern California – The Alliance – to advance systems change and promote career pathways in the sports industry for local high school students to incorporate community college students.
Before joining LA84 in December of 2022, Ramirez dedicated over 15 years to public service in leadership positions within the City and County of Los Angeles, as well as the California State Legislature. During this time, he successfully implemented numerous legislative initiatives and developed programs addressing complex policy challenges, including economic development, social services, transportation, homelessness, and the creative economy.
He served as the Board President of the Chicano Latino Youth Leadership Project and was selected as a fellow in the Victory Institute’s David Bohnett Leaders Fellowship at the Harvard Kennedy School’s Senior Executives in State and Local Government Program.
He holds a degree in Political Science and Chicana/o Studies from the University of California, Santa Barbara.
