Chris Chinn, a fifth-generation Missouri farmer from Clarence, has been leading the Missouri Department of Agriculture since January 2017. She focuses on moving the state’s agriculture industry forward.

As a trailblazer in ag advocacy, Chinn leverages social media and public speaking to connect with people. Through her outreach, she bridges the gap between farmers and consumers and helps to advance the state’s No. 1 industry.

As director of agriculture, Chinn created the MORE Strategic Initiative to protect and promote Missouri’s agriculture industry. She also works with Gov. Mike Parson and fellow cabinet members to enhance workforce development and infrastructure in Missouri.

Chinn’s leadership extends beyond state initiatives. She is a member of the National Association of State Departments of Agriculture, which represents the departments of agriculture in all 50 states. She has served as chairman of the American Farm Bureau Young Farmers and Ranchers Committee and sat on the board of directors for the American Farm Bureau Federation.

In 2013, she became a national spokesperson when she was named one of four Faces of Farming and Ranching by the U.S. Farmers and Ranchers Alliance. This honor identifies farmers and ranchers who are eager to share their farm story.

Chinn also dedicates her time and expertise to community and agricultural groups. These include the Missouri State Fair Commission and Missouri Pork Association (MPA), where she served on its board from 2015-16. She received the prestigious MPA’s Chairman’s Award in 2024 for outstanding service and support of the pork industry and the association.

Chinn resides on her family’s farm in Shelby County with her husband Kevin, where she helps manage their 1,600 sow farrow-to-finish operation and feed mill. They also have a small cow-calf herd and raise corn, soybeans and hay. Their two children, Rachelle and Conner, are also involved in production agriculture.
