None of us is getting any younger: Ethics, spirituality and end-of-life decisions

10:30 - 11:45 a.m., Wednesday, April 15, 2015
PSU Ballroom East

Is death the end of life, or is there life beyond what we know? The prospect of death raises a myriad of question, both ethical and spiritual. Lives are being prolonged far beyond any realistic definition of “quality.” May caregivers withhold or withdraw artificially-administered nutrition and hydration? Is physician-assisted suicide acceptable if the patient requests it? How are these decisions affected by government policy? By personal belief systems? Who should make these decisions – patients, families, doctors, religious leaders, legislators, others?
