The importance of civil discourse in our democracy
Today, more than ever, our country is in need of civility. Unrest surrounding events that transpired in 2015, from the banning of the Confederate flag to the Supreme Court decision for marriage equality, have shown that we as a nation need to talk. With the 2016 presidential election on the horizon, how should civility play a role in the campaigns? Why is civil discourse important? How does civil dialogue play a role in building healthy communities? How can civil discourse be translated into a real-world context?
