Together we rise: Providing sustainable community development to address poverty

Rural poverty is a pervasive issue throughout the U.S., but it “hits home” in the Ozarks. Individuals, families and communities are all affected by the loss of businesses and vital infrastructure due to economic downturns and the loss of social capital, including upwardly mobile youth. What are the issues related to rural poverty, and what can be done to sustain economic growth in distressed rural communities? Which organizations work most effectively with communities to identify the assets and social capital that are needed to rebuild rural community economies and infrastructures?
