How do social entrepreneurs contribute to sustainability?

9:00 - 10:15 a.m., Thursday, April 12, 2018
PSU Ballroom East

Social entrepreneurs like Tom’s Shoes and Barefoot College are examples of organizations that seek to use alternative business models in an attempt to make the world a better place. Locally, Askinosie Chocolate collaborates with farmers in Tanzania, Honduras, and the Philippines to purchase beans directly from the source so small farmers will benefit financially from the cocoa they grow. While social entrepreneurs work hard to help others, they often struggle to sustain themselves. Is it possible to be compassionate and contribute to the greater good while operating a viable business? What are the issues faced by today's social entrepreneurs?
