Jean directs professional development, community problem-solving and partners with educational institutions on diversity and student development. She also teaches in St. Paul Public Schools and was faculty at Hamline University for 15 years. Jean has been awarded The International Journal of Service-Learning In Teacher Education Lifetime Achievement Award, the Hamline University Ruth Grimes Professor Lifetime Achievement Award, The International Conference of Service-Learning in Teacher Education Rahima Wade Outstanding Individual Educator, The Hedgman Center for Social Justice and the Diversity-Outstanding Faculty Award. As a scholar Jean has contributed many publications and presentations to the field, most notably for eService-Learning. She is the co-editor of the International Journal of Service-Learning in Teacher Education and working on a text on Taking eService-learning to address social problems in communities.
Jean holds a BS in elementary education from the University of Pittsburgh, an MS in elementary education and literacy from Minnesota State University, Moorhead and two Ph. D’s in Educational Psychology and Curriculum and Instruction from the University of Minnesota.
