According to the Journal of American Medical Association (JAMA), by the year 2020, 5.6 million kids (9.2%) had been diagnosed with anxiety and 2.4 million (4.0%) had been diagnosed with depression. News reports are filled with rising child abuse, neglect, sleep deprivation and other factors that work to produce poor well-being and declining academic performance.  While awareness is a first step, solutions must be found to combat the mental health, social isolation and disconnection issues impacting children and young adults in K-12 schools, the university level, at home, and in their communities. With this knowledge, how do the web of individuals, systems and structures work together to support successful solutions? Can broader policies be sustainable with or without individual responsibility? What tools can child advocates provide to empower youth and their families for a healthier self and community?
