Salma Hussain Bachelani, OTD, OTR/L, PMH-C graduated from Missouri State University honors college in 2013 with a major in psychology and a minor in religious studies. She went on to earn her clinical doctorate in occupational therapy from WashU Medicine in 2016. As an occupational therapist, she has clinical practice experience primarily in pediatric school-based settings as well as adult acute-care settings.
In 2021, Salma returned to WashU Medicine where she is an assistant professor and enjoys teaching in the OT program. She strives to improve participation and engagement amongst children, youth and families across home, school, and community settings. Her pediatric-based work focuses on producing and implementing community-based programs, such as staff trainings on social emotional learning and pediatric developmental milestones. She aims to enhance service provision in underserved communities and fostering inclusive and accessible learning environments. Salma is also interested in the emerging practice area of OT and maternal care to support expectant parents as they navigate pregnancy and new parenting roles. She is currently developing a program to facilitate well-being for parents impacted by high-risk pregnancies.
In her free time, Salma enjoys spending time with her family and friends - especially going on adventures exploring local parks with her husband and two sons, who keep her very busy.
