Dr. Shannon Akin’s education includes advanced training in school neuropsychology resulting in a Diplomate in School Neuropsychology, Doctorate in Philosophy in Educational Psychology, Multi-Disciplinary Master of Science Degree in Counseling, Special Education, and Psychology, Master of Science Degree in Applied Psychology, and Bachelor of Science in Psychology. Dr. Akin holds a license in Texas as a School Psychologist and is a board-certified School Neuropsychologist (ABSNP). She is also, certified Trainer of Trainers in Trauma and Resiliency from the Center for Optimal Brain Integration.
She has 11 years of experience teaching at the university and junior college level and taught courses in psychology, education, special education, in-person and virtually. Dr. Akin also taught courses for the Police Academy at Eastfield Community College and consulted on trainings for the Cayman Islands police department in identifying and interacting with persons with mental illness. She has worked in school districts from 1A to 5A as well as internationally in the Cayman Islands where she was an Educational Psychologist and Lead Psychologist for the Department of Education. Her experience includes early childhood testing, K-12, and Transition to Adulthood.
Dr. Akin has presented in Texas, nationally and internationally at the Texas State Conference on Autism, Southwestern Psychological Association, Cayman Early Childhood Association, and multiple times at the Learning Disabilities Worldwide Conference. She is committed to being a lifelong learner expanding her expertise in evaluation, education, and social-emotional needs including trauma. Shannon is currently writing a series of children’s books.
