We frequently hear groups of people claiming responsibility for the adoption of a particular policy or law, the election of a political candidate, or a specific cultural shift. However, often it is the combined efforts of dissimilar parties around a common cause that yields the outcome.  There is community and camaraderie in groups with shared backgrounds, values, and circumstances. But what happens to their power to influence and inform when they are siloed and become “individuals” in the greater context of society?  What challenges and opportunities are presented by divergent groups working together?  How can they balance maintaining their identity and working across divides to achieve shared goals?
