Sustaining public service
Every day, public servants respond in roles that might fit this job description: low pay, high stress, high probability of conflict. These jobs (teachers, child protection services personnel, first responders) often include critical services for individuals, families and communities. In a system accountable to taxpayers and voters rather than shareholders and governing boards, how can the public sector attract and support a stable workforce when private enterprise offers more attractive pay and benefits? How can efficient use of taxpayer dollars be assured while providing excellent government services? How can people be inspired to assume and fulfill these roles?
