Today’s generation of young people is experiencing more reported mental health issues than ever.  According to the Department of Health and Human Services, the prevalence of depression among people under 17 has nearly doubled in the past decade, and the National Institute of Mental Health reports that nearly one in three adolescents will experience an anxiety disorder.  How have movements to reconsider conditions like autism and ADHD as examples of neurodiversity, rather than disease or disorder, further complicate our understanding of young minds? How can the community help our youth better respond to issues of information overload and a 24/7 bombardment of negativity via online and other sources?  In what ways can the barriers of stigma, lack of services, and distrust of mental health workers be addressed?  How can areas such as medicine, psychology, and education work collectively with families and community services to enable our youth to live their most fulfilling lives?
