It may be cliche to say that younger Americans are spiritual-but-not-religious.  Yet, this expression reflects very real changes in the American religious landscape. Since the turn of the twenty-first century, the proportion of Americans identifying with no religion has soared to 30 percent. Since the pandemic, houses of worship have reported emptier pews and falling attendance. At the same time, participation in gyms and fitness centers has rebounded to pre-pandemic levels. Can the spiritual-but-not-religious find community? Can gyms across America and activities such as yoga serve as substitutes for traditional faith communities? How may this shift in the religious landscape affect local and national voting, politics and government?  Such questions are at the heart of the tension between community and individualism in America.

Panel Host:  Stacey Trewatha-Bach     Q&A Moderator:  Dr. John Schmalzbauer
