Centering Community Means Decentering Self

10:10 - 11:00 a.m., Wednesday, September 30, 2026
Live Zoom Webinar

We are all susceptible to falling into “main character” syndrome (the belief that one’s personal, immediate, and individualistic view is the only or most important reality). Intentionally shifting focus away from one’s ego fosters deeper appreciation and value for others – leading to more authentic relationships and putting action into community connections. What is the impact to self and community if only focused on oneself? How can social awareness create community impact? What strategies can be used to help bridge social capital to expand community ties and a collective sense of belonging? Are people willing to be inconvenienced a lot, a little, or at all in order to strengthen community and advance noble causes?
