Carol Daniel - 2016 Awardee

Clinical Supervisor, School of Nursing

Carol has a heart for the homeless.  Her impact on the health needs of the homeless and underserved is evident throughout the area as she actively volunteers with the Kitchen, Rare Breed, Victory Mission and the Salvation Army.  In addition to serving on boards and fundraising, she also gets hands-on by providing the medical clinic for Rare Breed’s Annual Sleep-Out. 

Because of Carol’s passion and leadership, Springfield now has a place for homeless women to heal from illness and injury, and to recuperate following hospitalization.  After years of groundwork and fundraising, the Women’s Medical Respite officially opened in May 2015 providing homeless women shelter, nutritional support, transportation, and assistance in following doctor’s orders.  Looking to the future, Carol and her group of volunteers hope to expand services to men as well. 

For her dedication to seek and find solutions to important local health and economic issues, we recognize Carol Daniel with the 2016 Faculty Excellence in Community Service Award.
