Dennis Erfling - 2015 Awardee

DennisErflingElectrician, Facilities Management and Maintenance

Serving others is simply a part of Dennis Efrling.  From local projects to international missions, Dennis works to make a positive impact whether it be big or small.  An avid individual and tandem bicyclist with his wife Melissa, Dennis has dedicated over 15 years to the local Multiple Sclerosis Society as both a Bike-A-Thon participant and as a volunteer member of the Mid-America MS Chapter Planning Committee.  While many take vacation to relax, Dennis uses his time to wake at dawn and paint the route arrow markers for the 150 miles of road used by Bike MS cyclists so they don’t get lost.  Dennis also supports many other causes through 5 K’s and other bike-a-thons to help support local needs.

Currently a Charter Organization Rep with the Boys Scouts of America he also volunteers with several other non-profits including the Girl Scouts and Camp Barnabas.  In addition, Dennis was among the first helping Hurricane Katrina victims, traveling 4 times to Louisiana and 3 times to Pearl, Mississippi, cleaning and rebuilding ruined homes.

In 1998, Dennis began international mission work in Ecuador traveling 5 times in 7 years building churches, schools and a community credit union.  This year he was part of a group that built 20 homes in 10 days in Nicaragua.  Dennis states, “even though you don’t speak the same language, it’s the new friendships formed and the mutual learning from each other that is the most rewarding part of my international work.”

For these reasons we are proud to recognize Dennis Erfling is a recipient of the 2015 Staff Excellence in Community Service Award.
