Teaching and Research
Dr. Durham conducts research at the Center for Biomedical and Life Sciences, a multidisciplinary laboratory that utilizes cellular/molecular, microbiological, biochemical, and chemical techniques. A major focus of his research has been to elucidate the cellular/molecular mechanisms by which novel drugs and nutraceuticals modulate the excitability state of neurons and glial cells under pathological conditions. The goal is to discover and develop novel methods to reduce the chronic pain associated with prevalent orofacial pain diseases including migraine and TMD.
Professional Interests and Honors

Dr. Durham is a frequently invited guest lecturer on the topics of orofacial pain and epigenetics. He is the author of 80 peer-reviewed research articles, over 150 published abstracts and several book chapters. He is a council member for the American Academy of Orofacial Pain and a member of the Society for Neuroscience, American Headache Society and American Pain Society. In addition, he routinely serves on National Institutes of Health (NIH) study sections and pharmaceutical company advisory boards and is currently a reviewer for 15 different journals.
